Participating companies 2010

The companies participating in Eventure Karlstad are selected based on their business concepts, entrepreneurial power and market potential related to a possible international expansion. That means the participants have a certain history. Participating companies will be presented as soon as the jury have made their decision.

The selection are made with consideration to factors such as market potential, uniqueness, management capacity and lucid use of capital. In addition, the assessment includes the collected opinion of the jury members as to the companies' potential to attract investors. The companies represent a wide spread, both geographically and businesswise.

The following companies were appointed for Eventure Karlstad 2010:

Posifon AB
Posifon offers a mobile safety system with advanced peripheral services. In addition to alarms and GPS functions, Posifon works as a telephone in emergency situations. Today, there are approximately 140,000 people in Sweden with social alarms, notably elderly and disabled persons. This figure will rise sharply in the years to come. Society will therefore need to change the structure of social care, above all in order to manage the increasing percentage of senior citizens. Posifon's unique web service offers a modern solution with many potential applications.

MaxiMilia System AB
MaxiMilia System offers a new IT-based operational system for support and care. Currently, support and care organisations spend up to 80% of their efforts on work that has already been done. The reason is that it is difficult to access correct information. MaxiMilia System solves this problem by automating, in a user-friendly way, the compilation of relevant, updated information from various sources. The primary target group are the some 600,000 professionals within support and care, but private individuals will also be able to use the technology. The service has been developed over ten years, and with strategic partners such as IBM, MaxiMilia System is now preparing for a broader launch.

Becare Orthopedic Thermal Care AB
The Thenerex gel creates completely new opportunities for orthopaedic cooling or heating of muscles and joints. Becare Orthopedic Thermal Care has developed a number of applications for their patented gel, which not only relieves pain and rehabilitates, but also enables faster recovery. In contrast to many of the competitors, Becare's products are ergonomically designed, which makes them usable even during work or physical activity. That makes the gel more versatile, yielding great results in applications like self-care of muscles with inflammations and rigid joints. Becare has trade mark protection and patents for the products, which have also been tested by the Technical Research Institute of Sweden. Furthermore, they have been approved by the Swedish Medical Products Agency and are qualified for the CE mark. Now Becare is ready to be a market leader in the field of orthopaedic heating and cooling therapy.

iDoc24 AB
iDoc24 has developed a patent-pending service that offers medical expert advice within 24 hours, anonymously in the mobile phone. In this first phase, iDoc24 is designed for visual medical disorders. Every year, the Swedish medical on-call service receives some 300,000 calls relating to skin rashes. The nurses are then expected to inform the patient without the support of images. iDoc24 makes it possible to provide faster answers with better decision support, thanks to technological features like MMS, web forms and mobile devices such as the iPhone. This also reduces the number of unnecessary visits to medical care institutions and related costs. The service can even be used abroad. Consulting via the mobile phone is a rapidly growing field within medical care, both nationally and internationally.

Capeco AB
Capeco solves the problem of mould and algae growth in water-based outdoor paints. In currently available paints, the protection leaches out and is washed away by rain. Thanks to Capeco's patented microcapsules with controlled release, the paint gets long-term protection, and the aim is lifetime resistance to mould and algae growth. The house owner saves both time and money, while also reducing the emission of chemicals into the environment. The microcapsules are mixed into the paint during manufacturing. The market is significant: only in 2008, about 1.6 billion litres of water-based paint were sold in Europe and the USA. Co-operation with paint producers has already been initiated.

CaiLar
CaiLar has developed a research-based technology that makes it possible to replace the plastic lining inside food packaging with a combination of potato starch and nanoclay. The patent-pending method not only solves a great environmental problem, but also enables big-scale production and considerably simplifies recycling processes. The market forecast for fibre-based, environmentally friendly packaging is a stable and long-term growth, primarily as a result of changed consumption habits. Several major industries already follow the development of CaiLar, and they are currently investigating the possibilities to license the technology to various actors in the field of packaging.

Olink Genomics AB
Olink Genomics commercialises its patented technology for advanced DNA analysis. The current DNA-analysis methods require expensive and advanced equipment, and time-consuming training is a prerequisite for use. But with the technology from Olink Genomics, it is possible to select, in a simple, quick and scalable way, specific components of the genetic heritage. Olink Genomics therefore considerably facilitates and streamlines the utilisation. The company will sell and offer support for the reagent kits developed. Potential customers include university hospitals, research institutes, government institutions and companies in the fields of medicine and biotechnology. The market for DNA analyses is considered to be one of the most rapidly growing ones within life science, and its turnover is expected to increase to USD 3-6 billion within the next five years.

Nicarnica AS
Nicarnica has developed a unique patent-pending technology that enables real-time observation of the changes taking place around gases and emissions in specific areas. The core of the technology is a camera-based surveillance system, which detects and visualises emissions on sites like industries and harbours. As opposed to the systems of competitors, the Nicarnica technology can measure different substances using one single sensor. This increases the possibility to control emission levels and ensure compliance with regulations for the area. The surveillance of industrial sulphur and nitrogen emissions is estimated to cost about NOK 12.6 billion (EUR 1.6 billion) per annum. Nicarnica's technology will be licensed to customers through strategic partners.
